The third video in the how-to build a boat series covers the assembly of the hull using zip ties with the stitch and glue method. this construction method can be used for other boats and wood. Plastic cable ties can be used instead of wire. many stitch and glue builders are finding these ties to be very convenient and faster to tighten. they are also easier to snip off and can be sanded or cut flush once the glue has cured. however, they do require a larger hole than wire and once tightened cannot be adjusted.. I have not personally used zip ties, but i know many others who have. i've seen some clc boats on this site and i've also seen stitch and glue power boats built using zip ties on the glen-l forum..
Stitch and glue building is the name given to boat building using plywood sheets held together by copper wire, string, cable ties, or some other method. the joint is then glassed over – on larger boats the copper wire may be left in, but on smaller craft it is usually cut out. an epoxy fillet. I have wanted to build a wooden boat for some time. nothing fancy, just a simple row boat. so i searched for plans and building techniques and was struck by the stitch and glue method. searching this forum i stumbled on to posts by flo-mo and found his big guide design. so i printed out his plan and made a cardboard model of big guide and thought i would take it to the next level.. In the 3rd video of the frs12 how to build a boat series we cover assembly of the hull using zip ties with the stitch and glue method. this method can be used for other boats and wood working projects. these boat plans come with full size patterns for you to trace on plywood and cut out..
